Battery stands are used to reduce the footprint of the battery bank in an enclosed space or battery room. They are used for different types of batteries including vented, semi-sealed batteries and VRLA batteries.
Stands are manufactured in various types of materials including laminated pine, meranti, steel and polywood (plastic). During manufacturing of these stands consideration must be taken with regard to weight, size and magnitude of the battery banks that these stands must support. Structural integrity of the battery stand is of paramount importance.
Battery cabinets are used primarily for aesthetic reasons to house batteries in an office environment. These batteries are normally the valve regulated lead acid (VRLA), semi-sealed type that form an integral part of the UPS.
These cabinets are manufactured from mild steel and are then powder coated to a desired colour. Slots and vents are cut accordingly as per the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure dissipation of hydrogen within the enclosure.
Due to their small footprint, Nickel Cadmium cells used for switchgear protection are also enclosed in a battery cabinet.
